The City Manager is recommending a 1.99¢ property tax increase for critical public safety enhancements that will include 168 police officers in crime fighting positions, squad cars and equipment, emergency medical services enhancements and security in public facilities such as parks, libraries, etc. The City Council wants your feedback on whether to 1) maintain the current property tax rate which would exclude the public safety enhancements 2) increase the tax rate as recommended by the City Manager for public safety or 3) increase the tax rate beyond that needed for public safety to fund quality of life enhancements. At the bottom of this page is a comparison chart on the tax rate for the City of Dallas vs. the City of Fort Worth. 1 cent in property tax rate generates $6,526,189 in revenues.
