City of Dallas Public

Purpose for Reconstruction
Over the years the condition of the
street's infrastructure has declined causing unacceptable driving conditions.
Structural failures below the street's surface resulted in ruts and potholes.
Standing water further deteriorated the condition resulting in poorer driving
conditions.
In July, 1999 traffic detours were
erected in preparation for upcoming construction. Southbound (in-bound)
traffic was routed around the construction area. Northbound (out-bound)
traffic will remain on McKinney throughout the construction project (See Detour
Map).
Street maintenance of through
traffic lanes will continue to be done such as repair of pot holes and other
obstructions. Vehicular and pedestrian access will be open to all businesses and
residents through to project completion. Trolley tracks will be repaired by the
McKinney Avenue Transit Authority.
Underground utilities such as storm water
drainage, water, and wastewater services are being upgraded or replaced. Street
pavers will be installed. Reusable antique bricks will be installed at select
locations. A new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Oak
Grove and McKinney. The streetscape will be enhanced by planting approximately
90 trees with decorative tree grates.
