Purpose for Reconstruction

New concrete pavers installed in herringbone pattern Over the years the condition of the street's infrastructure has declined causing unacceptable driving conditions. Structural failures below the street's surface resulted in ruts and potholes. Standing water further deteriorated the condition resulting in poorer driving conditions.

During Reconstruction

Area around trolley track pigmented to designate pedestrian crooswalk In July, 1999 traffic detours were erected in preparation for upcoming construction.  Southbound (in-bound) traffic was routed around the construction area.  Northbound (out-bound) traffic will remain on McKinney throughout the construction project (See Detour Map).

Originalbricks are being re-installed in 2 ft. strip between curb and sidewalk Street maintenance of through traffic lanes will continue to be done such as repair of pot holes and other obstructions. Vehicular and pedestrian access will be open to all businesses and residents through to project completion. Trolley tracks will be repaired by the McKinney Avenue Transit Authority.

Storm sewer installation-Oak Grove at McKinney Underground utilities such as storm water drainage, water, and wastewater services are being upgraded or replaced. Street pavers will be installed. Reusable antique bricks will be installed at select locations. A new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Oak Grove and McKinney. The streetscape will be enhanced by planting approximately 90 trees with decorative tree grates.
