We wish to provide you the best and fastest way to find:
1) Information we provide directly on these web pages,At this time we do not have an internal search capability built into our site, but we want to provide that in the future. In the meantime, here are some good, if slower, methods of finding everything we have.
(primarily city council agenda and minutes, and election information)2) An index to information that is in our paper files and microfiche , and
3) Information of special interest in our archives, such as the JFK collection.

We recommend searching using Google. The blank below is provided for your convenience. We suggest you add [+"City of Dallas" +"City Secretary"] to the other item(s) you add to the search. Recently added documents may not yet be indexed by the search engine.
City Secretary File Research
We also want you to be able to research the document numbers of City Secretary file documents. You cannot view the actual document online, but you can get the file number here and then request the document. These documents are items such as
the actual resolutions corresponding to the City Council agenda items,You can determine if the document that interests you exists and find the document number. Then tell us by phone, fax or letter that you would like to receive a copy. (The cost of copies is set in compliance with the Texas Public Information Act.) This may save you the research and waiting time that would occur if you came directly to this office before beginning the research.backup materials for agenda items, including maps and plans
administrative actions related to certain purchases,
contracts,
briefings, and
any item that would require City Council review and approval.
The files made available by the links below are very large text files. They are created directly from the City Secretary Index files this office uses for research. So you now have available every research capability our staff has for any City Secretary file document dated 1985 or later. Once you have downloaded the file(s) you need, use your edit/find command or similar command in a text editor or word processor to find the key words of interest. We suggest you save the files for 1985 - 1998 and 1999 on your hard drive if you expect to need them again, in order to save repeating the download time. You may download either just the years you need, or download the entire current City Secretary Index for 1985 through 1998 as one file. Since the index for years prior to the current year will not have further updates, you will not need to download prior years again.

The John F. Kennedy assasination files and images are now online. The collection is very large. The entire index is online. The images were scanned at 2-bit depth, 300 dpi, and have not been resized to fit browser screens, because that would deteriorate the image quality. Internet Explorer 6 will fit the image to the browser, if configured to do so in Tools | Internet Options | Advanced | Enable Automatic Image Resizing.
