CITY COUNCIL BUDGET BRIEFING

MAYOR TOM LEPPERT, PRESIDING

The meeting was called to order at 9:03 a.m.

 

The city secretary announced that a quorum of the city council was present.

 

The invocation was given by Councilmember Hill.

 

Councilmember Kadane led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

The meeting agenda, which was posted in accordance with Chapter 551, "OPEN MEETINGS," of the Texas Government Code, was presented.

After all business properly brought before the city council had been considered, the city council adjourned at 1:56 p.m.

Item 1:       Authorize (1) public hearings to be held on September 9, 2009 and September 14, 2009 to receive comments on a proposed tax rate; and (2) a proposal to consider adoption of a 79.37¢/$100 valuation tax rate, or a lower rate as may be proposed by the City Council on September 23, 2009 - Financing: No cost consideration to the City

 

Councilmember Hill moved to authorize public hearings to be held on September 9, 2009 and September 14, 2009 to receive comments on a proposed tax rate and the flexibility, if the city council chooses, to increase up to 84.89 ¢/$100 valuation tax rate.

 

Motion seconded by Councilmember Medrano.

 

After discussion, Mayor Leppert called the vote on Councilmember Hill's motion:

 

Voting Yes:                       [3]  Hill, Davis, Atkins

Voting No:                      [10] Leppert, Medrano, Jasso, Neumann, Kadane, Allen, Koop, Natinsky, Margolin, Hunt

Absent when vote taken: [2]  Caraway, Salazar

 

Mayor Leppert declared the motion failed.
